Models and Tonewoods

We use the finest quality tonewoods, and encourage the customer to select the type of wood for the soundboard, back, and sides. Although most of the models that we build are based on common guitar styles, it is not our goal to make exact replicas of any instrument. All of our guitars are built with a unique “Rockbridge” sound.

Slope Shoulder Dreadnought

Gibson first came out with slope shoulder dreadnoughts in the 1930’s. The slope shouldered dreadnought is similar to a standard dreadnought, but with a wider lower bout and a more rounded upper bout. The slope shoulder dreadnought are great guitars for many styles of music. Our slope shouldered dreadnought are interpretations of the Gibson J-35’s. (pictured here with a sunburst).

Dreadnought

Created by Martin in the 1930’s the dreadnought has become the most common shape for acoustic guitars. Built to provide more bass and volume, it was the first widely accepted, standard design, for a large bodied guitar. Great musicians in nearly all musical genres commonly use the dreadnought as their guitar of choice. Our dreadnoughts are interpretations of these timeless classics.

000

The 000 is a small-bodied guitar that is frequently favored by finger-style players for its balance and response. These guitars have a surprisingly powerful sound, which allows them to excel as both finger-style and flat-picking guitars. This is an especially popular guitar amongst studio musicians for it’s recording qualities. Its smaller size, and narrow depth make the 000 a very comfortable guitar to play.

00

The Rockbridge 00 traverses the gap between our 0 model and 000 model guitars. The 00 is a great versatile guitar.

0

This is the smallest guitar we make. It is a very portable guitar that still provides ample volume with both balance and tone. The 0 model sounds great for a wide variety of musical styles. This is not a novelty model, but stands on its own as a great guitar. (pictured here with a sunburst).

Roy Smeck Model

Our interpretation of the fabled Gibson model from the 1930s, which pairs a 12 fret neck with a standard slope shouldered body. This places the soundhole, bracing and bridge lower on the body, creating a unique vintage look and sound. Originally designed for slide playing, these guitars excel as both fingerstyle and flatpicking guitars in a variety of styles.

SJ

An interpretation of the Gibson J-185, the SJ is another extremely versatile guitar model. Its graceful symmetrically rounded design with a narrow waist and wide lower bout bridges the gap between large and small-bodied guitars. The SJ is often used for vigorous strumming and rhythmic accompaniment, but it is especially popular as a finger-style guitar. (pictured here with a cut-away).

Traditional Model

A dreadnought model constructed with authentic features from the 1930's Martin Dreads. This guitar comes with a 25.4" scale, forward shifted scalloped bracing, and a 3 7/8" soundhole with a 3 ring rosette. The guitar includes a Brazilian Rosewood peghead veneer and other traditional appointments. A tribute to the legendary guitars coveted by players of genres ranging from bluegrass to singer/songwriters. The Rockbridge traditional model is a great sounding instrument, built with the deep "whomping" bass associated with the early Martin Dreads.

*Many of our guitars are also available as 12 fret models and with cut-aways.
